New Composite Roof

You can see that the shakes were starting to show their age even in 2007 when this picture was taken, we certainly won't miss the look they gave the house.

The roofers got an amazing amount of work done on their first day, 90% of the shakes off, plywood and paper down.

We removed a small tree near the front porch because it was messing up the gutter and edge of the roof, it makes the front of the house look much more open.

Most of the back of the roof is ready for shingles, the rest will be done tomorrow.

You can already see how much better it will look with the shakes gone, they look pretty weathered.

You can see the skip sheeting that was under the shakes, no plywood at all, just strips to nail to with access to the attic in between. Just after they left for the day the roof delivery truck showed up with the wrong color shingles, shadow grey instead of charcoal black. I caught it just before they started loading the roof, now we're in a holding pattern until they get that sorted out on Monday.

Monday morning the shingles arrived at 8am and by the time I arrived at noon they were over half done the house.

We couldn't be more happy with the job they've done, the shingle we chose or the color, it totally changes the look of the house.

It just gives such a clean look compared to the cedar shakes.

The small roof over the kitchen is one of the only areas they have left for tomorrow, they seemed to have ran out of flashing.

This is the other place, just above the fireplace, I'm sure they'll get it finished tomorrow and cleanup the little bit of mess they haven't gotten to yet.

They got the last bit done in less than an hour and over the weekend I painted the old brown flashing black to match the stuff that was replaced.

Last but not least they finished up the back of the fireplace enclosure and I painted it's flashing as well.
