November 18, 2009:  Hey everyone, just a quick update for tonight.  We don't have a lot to report this week so I should be able to cover it all.  The tube was removed from Lisa's Dad's throat yesterday and he seems to be breathing well on his own now.  He has a touch of pneumonia but we're hoping now that he can sit up and the tube is gone that it clears quickly.  Still no news about when he'll be going home but we're happy to hear some good news.  I've been making progress as well, no more crutches as of a couple days ago and I'm getting around pretty well.  The stitches came out today and that made things feel a lot better, it was starting to get real tight.  The muscles are still very tight and and I can only bend my leg so far but it gets better every day.  Just before my surgery we got a Nintendo Wii to help me pass the time and it's done a great job of that, tons of fun.  In my spare time I've been working on the kegerator a bit, pictures are updated under 'Projects' to the left.  I'm waiting on a few parts being welded and as soon as they are back we'll have beer in it again.  On a different note, we traded the Element for a 2010 Honda CRV over the weekend.  The Element had over 100k miles on it and needed a few things done to it plus even though it's a great dog vehicle when the seats are out it's only a two seater.  The CRV has plenty of space for the dogs (Stella's half sister should be born the first week of December) and four people as well.  We need to pick up some all weather floor mats and get the dog barricade installed before Stella gets to test it out, hopefully by the end of next week.  I've been working from home this week and will be going in to the office tomorrow, let the hell begin again I guess.  If it were all fun and games it wouldn't be called work I guess.  Have a great week.

November 7, 2009:  Good afternoon gang, glad to be here, thanks.  Just a quick update for now.  My surgery was Tuesday afternoon and it went well.  The plan was to come home later that day but everything I got for pain made me very sick so I had to stay until that cleared up the next morning.  The part that stinks is that the only thing that doesn't make me sick is Advil, which is a far cry from what they wanted me to take.  So far the pain hasn't been all that bad, nothing like when I broke it.  I've been sitting on the couch and trying to keep myself busy all week, I have to say that I'm starting to go a bit mad!  We are going to dinner at Eric and Isabela's house tonight so that will be great.  Lisa has been at work all week so that makes it even worse, Stella is good company but she isn't much of a talker.  On the Florida front, Lisa's Dad is making progress, just slowly.  Hopefully they will be able to remove the breathing tube in the next few days, that should make his spirits pick up and perhaps his recover speed up a bit.  I'm going to bail for now but will try to do another update early next week and actually get a picture of my incision, I haven't really seen how it looks yet but I'm anxious to.  Have a good weekend.

November 2, 2009:  Hey everyone, what a few weeks it's been around here, I'll try to cover everything.  The last time we spoke we were just about to embark on the craziness that was going to be the end of October for us.  My trip to Newark went well and I was able to make it to Dave and Lauren's to meet Elle as planned.  Stella was staying at Sweet Creek and got along well with the gang, she slept 20 hours straight after I picked her up on Saturday.  Lisa's Dad's surgery was Friday morning and it went well, they said his heart was strong and the aorta repair went very smoothly.  He woke up sometime Sunday and was in good spirits.  There were a few small issues over the next day or so but nothing that wasn't to be expected according to his doctors.  As Lisa was getting ready to leave on Tuesday he was complaining about pain in his abdomen but it appeared to just be a side effect of all the pain medication he had been on.  Lisa had a lay over in Charlotte, NC and she heard that he was taken into emergency surgery for a ruptured colon and serious blood infection.  I picked her up at the airport in Seattle late that night and she was back there for another flight the next night at the same time.  He has been kept sedated since that second surgery and still has a tube down his throat to help him breathe, they are hoping to remove the tube tomorrow.  The recovery from this type of surgery is very slow and very painful if it was done independent of the heart surgery he just had, with those combined we can expect many small steps of progress over the next few weeks.  Alice and Jeff were here all week to check out Seattle, have a little vacation and make it to the Halloween party.  We ended up canceling the party after the setback that her father had on Tuesday, we'll have a much bigger one next year to make up for it.  They had a nice relaxing week driving around to different neighborhoods and seeing some of the sights, they were bummed that Lisa wasn't here to hang out but were more concerned about her Dad and will end up catching her next time.  Lisa got on a plane earlier today to come home in time for my leg surgery tomorrow, I'll be taking off to pick her up at the airport in a few hours.  I have to check in around 10am tomorrow it should start around noon, hopefully I'll be able to come home a few hours after and won't have to stay in the hospital overnight.  I've been trying to get as much house and yard work done as I can because I'm not sure what my recovery will be like.  Things like raking the yard and taking down the Halloween decorations can't really wait three more weeks while I get better.  Lisa got me new handles and pads for my crutches so they are like new and ready to go.  For my birthday and to help keep me from going mad while I recover we finally picked up a Nintendo Wii and a couple of games.  Alice and Jeff also got me a game and some accessories so I have a pretty fun selection already.  We played a few of them and I have to say, even though the graphics aren't the best, the wireless controllers and motion sensing capabilities make it an amazing game system.  I finished up the last details on the kegerator and we emptied the first keg in time to bring it over to John's place so he could use it for his first batch of home brew.  I'm very happy with the way it came out, honestly it looks like I bought it that way.  So that about sums it up, I'll try to do some updates later in the week but we'll have to see how it goes tomorrow first.  Have a great week.
